2018

 

The CrossFit Open is a worldwide CrossFit competition. We have done it every year. It allows us to fly our values flag high for our friends, family, and the world at large to see.

INTRODUCTION

 

For the past 2 years, over 50 WLRCF family members tried their hand at the CrossFit Open. This year will be just as big, if not bigger, even YUUGE, maybe.

 

Our goals at WLRCF is to provide fun, community, and happiness through fitness. Competition helps us do just that. The pressure of competing pushes you to go harder and bring out your best. The shouting of people who you know cheering you on can add to that push, and being part of a team brings it all together into a community.

 

Can we bring that worldwide thrill home? Can we deliver all the fun of competition without causing any anxiety attacks? Can you do your first competition without fear of looking like a newbie?  We think so. In fact, we know so. We’ve now spent the better half of a decade doing it.

In the 2018 Open, we’re going to have four intramural teams competing. And you’re going to be on one of them.

 

Think of it like the houses at Hogwartz in Harry Potter. Will you be Griffyndor? Slytherin? “Donut Reeses-itate”? Or Hufflepufferfish?

 

The Four Intramural teams don’t have names yet. But their Captains will be chosen this week.

 

Yep, we chose a FUN bunch to Captain. We want you to sign up this year; are you really going to say no? I don’t think so.

 

REGISTRATION

 

Registration for the Open can be done at games.crossfit.com, and choose West Little Rock CrossFit as your Affiliate.

 

JERSEYS

 

We will have special open shirts with your team’s color to wear to your open workouts (and to Whole Foods). These will be pre-order and available before the open begins.

DRAFT

After you register for the open @ games.crossfit.com, you will grab a  notecard form the front table near the ipad and write on one side:

  • “3 strengths of mine”
  • “3 weaker points of mine”
    • These can be as serious or general as ou like, from workout strengths and weak points to “My spirit animal is a rhinocerous.” Remember, points are based onf fun, participation, spirit, and workouts.
  • Rx or Scaled

On the Front of the card, you’ll write your name. Put it into the jar and you’re set.

On Draft day, team captains will look at all of the backs of the card (no names) and then take turns selecting 3 at a time, only flipping over the card to reveal the athlete after they have picked the card. Captains will draw straws to decide who goes first and only have 30-seconds to select cards. They repeat this until all cards have been drawn. We will stream the draft live to our FB group

 

The winning amount of points in the intramural comes from participation and fun. The most workouts completed. The most yelling at workouts, the most noisemakers and outrages signs in the crowd of your team. The most mudslinging banter back and forth between captains! This is a party and should be treated as such!

 

The team with the most total points, fun and participation will win!

 

POINTS

 

+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at WLRCF each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout. This goes for Rx AND Scaled competitors!

 

+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at WLRCF for each workout in the Rx division gets an extra point for their team.

+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at WLRCF for each workout in the scaled division gets an extra point for their team.

 

+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points.

 

WORKOUTS

 

In 2018, athletes competing in the Open will have only four days to complete each workout. We haven’t yet set our schedule for competition just yet. We will release this asap. The Open will have five workouts.

 

You can be tested at any CrossFit Group time on Fridays. Our Friday PM Classes will be the official “big event” time. where we will make it a party, even if you won’t be doing the workout on Friday, show up and make noise for your team and others to earn the spirit award that week.

 

You’ll need a membership, and we’ll have a special 5-punch card available for your friends who want to join in the fun.

 

Thursday, Feb 22nd: Open 18.1 Announcement party and throwdown

  • 1 heat of at least 1 athlete from each team (voted by your team) to take on the open right after the announcement.

Friday, Feb 23rd (and every Friday after)

    • Any class will be available for open testing.
    • Main throwdown: 5:30pm Heats run until we are done. BYOB. (THIS IS THE PARTY!)

*Travel and schedule conflicts:

  • You can still get points for your team by doing the workout somewhere else. Just get judged and submit your score so we can credit you.
  • If you are in town but not during regular testing times, just ask for a judge and get the workout done when you can. If you have someone to judge you, you can do it at the box.

 

THEMES

We have themes in the planning for each week. Stay tuned for this! We will release them shortly (think spirit award, Murica’, Hippie, and others.)

PRIZES

 

We’ll have some random draws each week for prizes, including gear, supplements, and training packages. The top team will also earn a GRAND prize. Details released soon!

 

Our focus is on FUN. We want participation because it will make you fitter, and it will get you high-fives and you’ll be happy and love life more and glow and stuff.
