I do well with a routine. Wake up early, walk/play with the dogs, drink coffee, read and write, go to work, workout with a class and then head home to eat a healthy dinner and pass out with episodes of Scrubs on repeat.

But life has a funny way of doing what it wants to do without my input.

In 2015 I caught a very serious (nearly life-threatening) respiratory infection. It took me out of my routine for almost 3 weeks in order to recover.

After I got back to baseline- it was easier to sleep in and not workout as much.

In 2016/2017 I worked the Granite Games as a Head Judge. After the travel and days spent on my feet and enough coffee to finally do in Kieth Richards, I was ready to relax for a couple days…

Then a couple days turned into a few more. Then a week. Then I was eating bread and skipping meals.

You see where I’m going.

Each step leads only to the next step.

When we take a step towards our goal, it leads us closer to realizing it. Asking a coach for help with accountability will lead to an appointment to talk out a plan and get some action steps.

Conversely, when we take a step away from our goal, it leads us further away. Having one margarita will lead to a second margarita. Going on vacation and napping on the beach will lead to naps on the couch when you get home.

The key to “getting back into it” is keeping in mind that you are only one step away from being back in it. You don’t need to start with an audacious an change in your life. You just need to take one step in the right direction.

Go to the next class you can attend.
Track your next 5 meals in an app.
Email a coach and tell them you want to be successful with your steps.

Welcome to the progress complex.
Where all it takes is another step so we can step again.
