A Text Thread From My Phone

A few weeks ago, I wrote about a spider and her amazing butt. (you know because she probably squats. Oh, and the web thing is cool too).

Someone brought that post up and we transitioned topics from spider butts to “There’s no way I can do CrossFit.”

Oooohh, you guys know I love to squash that fear. (no pun intended). So, I broke down her message, copied our conversation and listed it here for you.

Her messages are in bold. Mine are unbolded.

I used to go to a regular gym but I think now my biggest hurdle is being frustrated that I can’t lift what I used to.
Plus – I know zero people in LR. So I’ll be a Lone Ranger.
Also, recently have been hanging out with that guy you met and he’s a jerk about me working out. Doesn’t like the idea of me going to a gym by myself…..
So there…I’ve listed all excuses in one text lol 😂

My response:

I know those feelz. I was one of the top athletes in AR for a while. I had abs and lifted a lot. Then I fell off the wagon and got lazy. It’s a lot of work to stay at that level, let alone make it back. So instead, I opted for showing up, getting a great workout that I wouldn’t do on my own, and having a lot of laughs to start my day or finish it. Because I won’t show up for “being the best,” no one here does… But I will show up for lolz.

But since I consistently stuck with it for the lolz, I’m getting stronger and faster again. I rowed the best 1000m in my life last Thursday. Plus, I have abs again.

I felt like that when I went to a box, and back then, I was right, but only for about 10 minutes. The coach was Matt; he introduced himself and noticed my tee-shirt from a soccer tournament and went, “Hey, I played in that!” It turns out I played his team that year. Then he introduced me to some other folks. We finished the workout, and all went to US Pizza in hillcrest, because, you know, that makes sense.
I left with four friends that day. Matt, Brenna, Eric, and Josh.

But that was eight years ago. So many more people do CrossFit now. They found out it’s something that they don’t “have to do” but “want to do.” You probably already know at least two people here.

*I personally know that you know 3 of them:)

Also, recently have been hanging out with that guy you met, and he’s a jerk about me working out. Doesn’t like the idea of me going to a gym by myself…

If guys had uterus’s, they’d be called “duderus’s.” Sound’s like he could relax his a little.

I kid. He seems nice; I just wanted to use the word “duderus.”

I get it though, cheap gyms let anyone in and don’t care too much what they do as long as they pay.

You have to be down-to-earth and somewhat have your stuff together to fit in here. We only have 15-30 people in the building at a time, so it’s a first-name basis here with everyone, eventually.

I know every. Single. Person. Here, and if you get hit on, it’s likely one of the girls, jelly of your hair after you got it done.
