If you run on the ground, after some distance, you will eventually get somewhere. It may not be exactly what you expected if you didn’t plan your trip, but at least you’ll know what direction to not run in next time. When you make it somewhere you want to be, you can remember the streets you took, landmarks that let you know you’re on track to get there.

Treadmills are different.

You can run, but you’re still going to be on a treadmill.

You may change the channels on a TV in front of you for distraction, but you’ll still be on the same treadmill.

You can even run faster, just to remain in the same place.

Planning routes, recognizing landmarks , and noticing a change from there you started and where you are now, are what will get you where you want to go. Plus, the view is better looking back.

The earth is spinning so, it’s really a big cosmic treadmill as well. But, that wouldn’t have been a good example for this post. (Astro-physicist friends, shut up)
