With Roots Above and Branches Below

When a tree becomes sick, we notice the branches first. It’s only natural for us. It’s where our attention has always been. But we don’t treat the leaves. A drop of water on a leaf is more helpful by 10-fold if given to a root.

We admire trees for their branches. They hold the leaves, flowers, and the wildlife that dwell within them. We differentiate trees based on their branches and leaves as well. It’s how they talk to us.

“I’m a conifer”

“I am sick”

“I need water”.

They may talk to us through branches, but trees grow, live, and sustain themselves through their roots.

If there is a problem, we don’t waste precious energy treating the branches. We get to “the root of the problem”.
