For those of you who have ever spent any time in NYC in the last few decades, you’ve probably come across this poster:
His posters are ubiquitous and often spoofed. Dan Smith is NYC folklore. Everyone knows his name. Celebrities have even hired him.
Twenty years later, Dan Smith is still teaching guitar. But more impressively, he is still hanging posters. My friend just saw him out in the field!
Repetitive work can feel, well, repetitive. Dan Smith could hire someone to do this. But then it wouldn’t lead to this post and my friend’s moment of delight. In that sense, hanging posters might become sacred for Dan Smith.
If you encounter something you don’t want to do this week, think of Dan Smith.
