Three Ways to Know Your Trainer Isn’t Sketch

So, you’ve had enough of the direction your health and fitness have been going, or maybe you realized you’re not getting anywhere with the treadmill you’ve been running on. Without clearly defined action steps and accountability, seeing progress in the gym is pretty much left up to luck.

It’s time to get help from a professional. Not a hobbyist who looks good in a tank top, but someone who’s self-esteem is tied to the results they can get for their clients.

But do I really need one?

It can be stressful and overwhelming, but in reality, finding a good trainer or coach is one of the easiest ways you can set yourself up for success. Receiving a healthy and happy headstart in the right direction with a reputable trainer makes all the difference for many people who don’t make headway on their own or thrive in a big group.

So, what should you look for?

  • A good trainer will carry themselves with a sense of professionalism. They will respect your decision-making process, not pressuring you or trying to persuade you of anything that you not willing to do. Not ready to sacrifice “Wine Wednesdays” with your friends? They’ll get it. There are other areas to make progress. This is a big financial and personal decision, and if they are true professionals, they will respect that and work with you to take steps in the right direction, not just their direction.
  • Great trainers are fitness fanatics. They should hold value in their health and will hold a wealth of information about the process of getting and keeping it. They should be happy to tell you everything you want to know about their journey to where they are. What worked for them? What didn’t? What about what worked for their clients? Feel free to ask any questions you have; if they are an invested trainer, they will be excited to answer them.
  • Very importantly, they don’t have a one-size-fits-all plan already made for you, but a plan for following up on whatever approach you both take. We provide personal training, nutrition, and group class at our facility, regardless of which one you prefer, we include check-ins every 90 days to make sure that you’re not only making measurable progress but that you’re enjoying it and anticipating the next goal, so you keep growing and keep your fitness fresh.

The signs of a professional reach far beyond their training style and background, the small things will be apparent as well. Professionals keep appointments, show up early and ready to go, and greet you with a smile. They know how important this is to you, and if they’re anything like us, they pride themselves in delivering an experience that’s not only effective but enjoyable.

Well, as enjoyable as exercise can be.
